About this board game
Empires is a 60-minute board game for 2–10 players, in which each player represents a colonial European nation competing to gain the most support. Over a series of rounds, you must supply your people with goods while developing the resources needed to strengthen your position.
Your people work in your territories to produce goods. Those goods can be used to supply your population, sold to earn gold, or traded freely with other players. The game allows trading at any point, with no restrictions on what may be exchanged.
Wars offer another way to expand your holdings and influence. By winning wars, you can gain people, territories, goods, and supporters. However, raising armies requires gold, so building a reliable economy and deciding when to sell goods can be vital to your plans.
- Produce goods by having your people work in your territories.
- Sell goods to earn gold for raising armies.
- Win wars to gain people, territories, goods, and supporters.
- Trade freely at any point, including people, territories, goods, gold, and player powers.
All turns are taken simultaneously, creating a game where players can act and negotiate without waiting through individual turns. You may trade resources, assets, and powers whenever you choose, making open exchange a central part of Empires.
At the end of the final round, the player with the most support wins. Balance production, sales, warfare, and negotiation as you compete to secure the backing of your people and emerge as the leading nation.
