About this board game

Emporion is a 2016 board game for 2–4 players, played in about 45 minutes, in which Greek settlers establish a trading spot on the Iberian peninsula and compete to build fame and fortune.

Players acquire cards and place them in their own play areas. These cards support the growth of each domain, helping players improve their armies, construct spectacular and diverse buildings, trade valuable goods with Athens, explore new lands, and stage cultural events.

The game’s central objective is to gain cards that award Prestige. Players can pursue this goal through different aspects of their settlement and its activities, including:

• Commanding expeditions into new lands
• Trading valuable goods with Athens
• Seeking the favor of the Gods
• Promoting Hellenistic culture across Iberian lands
• Using commerce, culture, or warfare to earn Prestige

As the Greek settlement develops, players compete to increase their influence and establish a lasting presence in the region. Each card added to a domain contributes to the player’s growing collection and the pursuit of Prestige.

The end of the game is triggered when a player places a fifteenth card in their domain, when the deck runs out, or when the Prestige cards are exhausted. The current round is completed, then the player with the most Prestige wins. With its combination of card acquisition, expanding domains, exploration, trade, culture, and war, Emporion presents a focused contest to shape the first great Greek settlement on the Iberian peninsula.
