About this board game

En Route: Special Edition is a flip-and-write game for 1–4 players that takes about 40 minutes. Across exactly 10 rounds, you create tour routes through fascinating cities, connecting different tourists with landmarks and attractions to earn Prestige Points.

Every city offers its own combination of basic and specific mechanisms, giving each location a distinct feel. The game includes real-world destinations such as London, New York City, Hong Kong, Paris, Cairo, and Rio de Janeiro, along with the fictional First City, packed with geek references.

Cards are not simply flipped at random. The active player plays one card face up, while the two players next to them secretly choose one card each. The active player then selects one of those two cards and discards the other, creating constant interaction and opportunities to influence what information becomes available.

  • Draw tourists and routes using coordinates and other information from the cards on the table.
  • Connect different types of tourists to landmarks and attractions.
  • Adapt your plans to distinctive city mechanisms and your opponents’ goals.
  • Score Prestige Points for each place of interest on your final route.

En Route keeps players involved throughout the game, with a fair degree of control and plenty of strategic decisions. You may need to anticipate what opponents want, negotiate with them, or persuade them to play cards that also benefit your route.

This 2024 Special Edition adds four additional cities, new mechanisms and game modes, plus Kickstarter-exclusive cards. Fast, dynamic, and focused on satisfying route-building decisions, En Route: Special Edition challenges you to create the most rewarding tour through a changing urban landscape.
