About this board game

Encounters: Shattered Wastes is a cooperative board game for 1–4 players, with a playing time of about 100 minutes. In each game, players use a total of 2–4 characters to explore The Shattered Wastes, a land of untamed magic.

The core of the game is the Encounter, a battle between the characters and an enemy. To win, players must defeat both sides of the Enemy Card by reducing the enemy’s Strength and inflicting Wounds. Success depends on coordinating attacks and choosing how to weaken the threat.

Players’ attacks shift an enemy’s Strength from Stamina to Fatigue. This process can Stagger the enemy, creating an opportunity for the characters to inflict Wounds. Timing and cooperation are central as the group works together to bring each enemy down.

• Choose one or more characters, using 2–4 characters in a game.
• Fight enemies in cooperative Encounters.
• Reduce Strength by shifting it from Stamina to Fatigue.
• Stagger enemies to open the way for inflicting Wounds.
• Endure enemy attacks from Strength and Rage cards.

Enemies fight back using both Strength cards and Rage cards, while characters must withstand damage and the threat of corruption. The players lose an Encounter if every character has been removed after reaching 0 Health Points or fully succumbing to corruption.

Released in 2024, Encounters: Shattered Wastes focuses on shared decisions, coordinated attacks, and the pressure of surviving each battle. Work together to weaken the enemy, exploit its Staggered state, and complete the Encounter before every character is overcome.
