About this board game

Enigma: Beyond Code is a deduction game for 1–5 players with a 60-minute play time, set in a secret Victorian mansion during World War II. Germany’s Enigma machines fuel a supernatural threat, and breaking the code may be the only way to stop chaos from invading the world.

Each player takes the role of a cryptology expert who has arrived at the Agency’s heavily guarded London mansion. Only one player is the true decrypter; the others are posing as experts while pursuing their own secret missions.

To accomplish your objective, you must navigate the mansion through cards representing its rooms and objects. The layout is ever-changing, and players inspect mansion cards in turn. Because the experts are supposedly working together, anyone who looks at a card must tell the others what is there—but that statement may be either true or false.

  • Deduce the motives of the other players.
  • Locate the cards your character needs.
  • Keep opponents away from the cards they are seeking.
  • Choose carefully between the risks of lying and the dangers of telling the truth.

The first player to complete their character’s mission wins the game. If nobody succeeds before the time limit, chaos breaks into the world and everyone loses.

Each play lasts 5–10 minutes, and the game is best played up to three victories. With its hidden agendas, changing mansion, and constant uncertainty over whether information can be trusted, Enigma: Beyond Code turns every revelation into a dangerous decision.
