About this board game
Equinox is an abstract tile-placement game for two players that plays in about 25 minutes. Each player takes the role of either black or white, competing to finish with the highest score.
The game features 48 different two-sided hexagonal tiles. Tiles are named for themes and objects such as Night, Day, Sword, and Tower. Each tile has a white side and a black side; apart from their color, the two sides are otherwise identical.
Players take turns playing tiles from a common pool. The game continues until every tile has been played, with each player playing two tiles per turn. Every tile has a unique action that can affect nearby tiles, the score, or another element of gameplay, making each placement an important part of the contest.
- Abstract tile placement for exactly two players
- 48 unique, two-sided hexagonal tiles
- A common pool from which both players select tiles
- Distinct tile actions that influence the surrounding game
- Final scoring based on colored tiles and earned bonus point tokens
At the end of the game, each player scores points for the tiles showing their color, along with any bonus point tokens they have earned. The player with the highest total wins.
With its compact playing time and broad range of uniquely named tiles, Equinox presents a focused head-to-head challenge built around placement, changing effects, and final scoring. Its 2012 release offers a complete version of the game using all 48 tiles.
