About this board game

Equinox is a betting game for 2–5 players that takes about 60 minutes, as mysterious creatures compete to earn a place in a legendary storybook.

Only four more stories can be recorded, so not every creature will make the cut. Across each round, players place numbered power cards in front of the creatures. The creature with the lowest value is eliminated from play, steadily narrowing the field.

Equinox gives players meaningful agency over the competition. Alongside playing power cards, you place bets on which creatures you believe will survive and become part of the storybook. The creatures’ special powers can also be used to turn the contest to your advantage, creating opportunities for clever plays and changing fortunes.

Only eight of the fourteen unique creatures appear in any one game, producing more than three thousand possible combinations. This variety gives each competition a different cast of contenders and keeps the struggle for a place in the book fresh.

Fans of Dr. Reiner Knizia may recognize Equinox as a revised edition of Colossal Arena, now featuring two new creatures. To mark the equinox occurring twice each year, the game is available with two distinct box covers; both boxes contain identical contents.
