About this board game
Eter is a two-player card game of dueling mages that plays in around 30 minutes. Each player commands a symmetrical deck of cards valued from 1 to 4, representing troops of magical minions created by their mage.
Players take turns laying cards to form lines of three or four, depending on the mode of play. Stronger cards can cover weaker cards, while the playing field grows as more cards are dealt. When a player wins a clash by completing a line, that victory is marked on the board in the space where the final card was played.
- Power cards: At the beginning of each turn, two powers are placed on the table. Either player may use one instead of making a regular move.
- Illusion spell: Once per battle, a player can draw a face-down card. The opponent does not know whether the draw is possible, and attempting to draw a card of lesser or equal value causes the opponent to lose their card.
- Explosion: If a player fills the playing field by laying down two full lines, an explosion occurs and discards certain cards already on the table.
The board reflects the playing field and records the results of each clash. A player who wins by making a line on the board wins the entire game; otherwise, the player with the lead after five rounds is victorious.
Before play begins, each player chooses a mage. Every mage has a unique and very powerful ability that can be used only once per game, adding a decisive moment to the contest. With its line-building rules, card-covering system, special powers, and hidden information, Eter presents a focused duel between two rival spellcasters.
