About this board game

Eureka is a 1988 board game for 3–6 players, with a playing time of about 60 minutes, in which prospectors search for gold and try to bring it safely home.

Players move their prospectors around the game board in search of gold. Finding it is only part of the challenge: gold can remain vulnerable to bandits and other players until it has been carried back to a player’s home base.

Movement follows the result of a roll. Rolls of 2–5 allow players to move their prospectors, while a roll of 1 sends the gold train one step closer to the prospectors’ base camp. The train’s progress adds another condition to the search for treasure.

Rafts are available to help prospectors cross rivers as they travel around the board. Players must move between the mines and their home base while dealing with the danger surrounding gold that has not yet been secured.

  • Move prospectors across the game board.
  • Search mines for gold.
  • Carry gold back to a home base to make it safe.
  • Use rafts to cross rivers.
  • Watch the gold train advance after a roll of 1.

The game ends when the gold train arrives or when the contents of all the mines have been depleted. In Eureka, prospectors are not simply searching for treasure; they are also trying to get it home before the game’s ending condition is reached.
