About this board game

Europa Universalis is a monster wargame for 1–6 players, with games lasting up to 3600 minutes, that recreates 300 years of world history from 1492 to 1792.

Players take the part of kings while managing a broad struggle involving diplomacy, territorial expansion, trade, military technology, economic development, and war. The full Grand Campaign spans the entire period, while shorter campaigns offer more focused ways to explore the game.

With 43 scenarios, Europa Universalis supports a wide range of historical experiences. Choose from seven campaign scenarios covering different periods between 1492 and 1792, play one of 20 battle scenarios, or take on a solitaire scenario featuring campaigns such as Cortes and Magellan, Da Gama and Albuquerque, Coen and Heyn, Yermak, or Washington.

  • Grand Campaign: 1492–1792, designed for the full historical experience.
  • Campaign scenarios: Seven shorter periods, including 1492–1519 and 1740–1792.
  • Battle scenarios: Historical conflicts including Lepanto, the Thirty Years War, the Seven Years War, and the War of the Spanish Succession.
  • Solitaire scenarios: Five dedicated historical scenarios.

The game includes two color maps of Europe and the rest of the world, each measuring 80 × 60 cm, along with 1,412 counters representing armies, fleets, leaders, detachments, colonies, trading posts, and more. A 72-page rulebook, 52-page scenarios book, 48-page annexes book, six player aids and record sheets, and two ten-sided dice complete the substantial set.

Whether you want a long campaign or a shorter battle, Europa Universalis offers a detailed historical wargame experience across multiple scales of play.
