About this board game

Europe Divided is a two-player, card-driven strategy game that takes about 75 minutes, casting one player as Europe and the other as Russia in a new Cold War.

Set against the political transformation of Europe after the Cold War, the game explores the expansion of NATO and the European Union, Russia’s resurgence, and the contested future of Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus. Europe is powerful and wealthy, but bureaucratic and slow to react. Russia has fewer resources, yet can respond rapidly.

Players compete to establish dominant influence in contested countries and earn victory points. They can also score by bringing key historical events to fruition, turning the game into an alternate-history struggle where pivotal moments may unfold differently.

• Use country-associated cards to build political and military influence.
• Gain financial resources and deploy military presence as the contest develops.
• Compete for influence across Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus.

An elegant deck-manipulation system creates pressure as your influence grows: expanding your reach weakens your deck. Every gain can therefore bring you closer to overreaching, forcing difficult choices between ambition and stability.

In Europe Divided, players decide how history unfolds. Will the Velvet Revolution lead to the split of the Czech Republic and Slovakia? How will the Bosnian War end? With modern flashpoints and a fast-playing card-driven core, each match offers a tense contest over Europe’s political and military direction.
