About this expansion
Evolution: Flight is an expansion for Evolution for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Released in 2015, it introduces avian species and adds a new dimension to the struggle for food, territory, and survival.
When creating a species, you can now choose between a normal species and a flying species. Flight comes with meaningful costs: you must discard two cards instead of one to create a flying species, its maximum Body Size is reduced from 6 to 3, and it requires food equal to its Body Size as upkeep to maintain its wings.
In return, flying creatures gain distinctive advantages. A species with Flight can take food from the Cliff, providing an additional food source, and cannot be attacked unless the attacking Carnivore also has Flight. Some new traits, including Dive-Bomb and Brood Parasite, work only for flying creatures.
- Create normal species or pay the higher cost to create flying species.
- Use the Cliff as an extra source of food.
- Protect flying species from Carnivores without Flight.
- Use Flight with Carnivore to discard cards and negate Symbiosis, Warning Call, or Climbing when attacking.
Flying Carnivores also gain a special tactical option: by discarding from your hand, they can negate certain defensive traits when they attack. This gives Flight species new ways to approach vulnerable targets while demanding careful management of cards, body size, and upkeep.
Evolution: Flight changes tactics and strategy dramatically, but keeps the base game’s core mechanics intact. It is designed to be quick to learn while expanding the Evolution world with aerial movement, new threats, and fresh choices about how species adapt.
