About this board game

Évora is a board game for 2–4 players, with a playing time of approximately 60 minutes, set in the Roman Empire during the 1st century AD.

Players take on the roles of builders working in Évora, then known as Liberalitas Julia. Their objective is to construct the 14 columns that still exist at the site of the Roman temple, which was probably built in honor of Emperor Augustus.

The game’s central mechanism is a rondel. Players move their workers around it to determine which action they will perform, creating a direct link between movement and construction. Available actions include building with stones and capitals, improving columns that have already been built, and requesting the influence of important characters through cards.

  • The Emperor: values the columns at the end of the game.
  • The Governor: inspects the columns and compensates players during the game.
  • The Centurion: maintains order at the construction site and offers greater mobility.
  • The Architect: helps make the construction process more effective and profitable.

Improving completed columns provides a points multiplier, while character influence can support players during the building process. Each decision contributes to the eventual prestige earned from the stones placed in the columns and from available bonuses.

In Évora, the player who obtains the most prestige points wins. Build the temple’s enduring columns, improve their value, and use the Roman Empire’s influential figures to make your construction efforts count.
