Expedition to 5X

About this board game

Expedition to 5X is a 15-round board game for 3–5 players, with an approximate play time of 35 minutes. After their home planet is destroyed, the clans arrive on the desert Planet 5X, where water is scarce and rival groups compete to establish themselves.

Each round, players choose one of five available actions. They may explore the territory, exploit water from oases, exterminate other clans, expand their options, or excavate technologies left behind by an ancient civilization.

Choosing the right moment to perform each action is central to the game. Players must also read what their opponents are likely to do, balancing their own needs against the plans of competing clans.

Throughout Expedition to 5X, players challenge one another for access to different ancient technologies. These discoveries improve basic actions and also provide victory points, making them valuable targets in the race for success.

However, pursuing every technology is not necessarily the best path. To win, players must carefully decide which technologies are worth fighting for while accepting the sacrifice of some of the improvements they offer. The result is a focused contest of timing, competition, and difficult choices across 15 rounds.
