About this board game

Fantastiqa: The Rucksack Edition is a deck-building board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes.

Journey through a fantastical landscape of dark forests, mist-shrouded highlands, and frozen wastes. As you travel around the board, encounter strange creatures, subdue them, and recruit them as allies for your growing deck.

Every creature has an ability and a vulnerability. Play the card symbols a creature is vulnerable to in order to defeat it, then add that creature to your deck. Its special ability becomes part of your own growing arsenal, allowing you to combine powers in increasingly inventive ways.

  • Build a deck from the creatures you subdue.
  • Combine allied abilities to overcome curious quests.
  • Collect gems from creatures and spend them on powerful artifacts or mythical beasts.
  • Complete quests to score victory points and claim special rewards.

Your adventure begins with a handful of ordinary household items, but successful expeditions bring new allies and greater power. You might use Rabbits of Unusual Size to Nibble Through the Violin Strings of the Violent Vampire Volnar, send Spiders to String a Bridge Across the Chasm of Chaos, or combine Dragons and Vampire Bats to Ignite the Whisker-Wick’d Candle Guarded by the Ice Cats of Kituviel.

The board changes every time you play, creating a fresh adventure in the world of Fantastiqa. Easy-to-learn rules welcome families and gamers, while simplified rules are included for beginners and children.

The lavishly illustrated components feature fine art by Caspar David Friedrich, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Arthur Rackham, John William Waterhouse, John Bauer, Edward Burne-Jones, Francisco Goya, and others.
