About this board game
Fifth Frontier War is a basic hex-and-counter wargame for 2–4 players, set in the Spinward Marches of the Traveller RPG universe, with an approximate play time of 360 minutes.
Designed as a campaign aid for Traveller, the game is also playable on its own. It provides a dedicated wargaming experience within the Traveller setting while remaining suitable for a standalone session.
Movement is generally pre-plotted and executed simultaneously. After movement has been carried out, combat occurs wherever it is necessary, creating a structured sequence for each turn.
Each turn represents one week of the conflict, while each hex on the map represents one parsec. This time and distance scale defines the game’s setting and provides the framework for plotting and resolving operations across the map.
Released in 1981, Fifth Frontier War includes a large game map, hundreds of counters, reference sheets, and dice to support its campaign-scale presentation.
- 22-by-26-inch game map
- 720 counters
- Four 8.5-by-11-inch chart sheets
- Two dice
- Box
With its combination of plotted movement, simultaneous execution, and combat resolution, the game offers a focused hex-and-counter format for Traveller players and wargamers. Its extensive counter set and chart sheets provide the physical components for campaigns spanning the Spinward Marches.
