About this board game

Fiji is a tactical auction-style board game for 2–5 players, playable in about 30 minutes. Set in 1777, it challenges players to trade colored glass beads with Pacific Islanders in the hope of acquiring valuable shrunken head treasures.

Each game unfolds over four rounds. During every round, players make offerings of colored beads through three exchanges, attempting to judge whether having the most or fewest beads of each color will be advantageous. A changing display of condition and effect cards determines how those offerings are evaluated.

  • Offer colored beads during three exchanges in each round.
  • Use condition and effect cards to determine who gains additional beads.
  • Match your remaining beads to the current goal cards to earn shrunken head tokens.
  • Adapt to new cards after every round.

Players must think ahead, since an offer can give them more beads or fewer beads depending on the conditions in effect. Ties add another layer of uncertainty: tied players are cancelled out, allowing the next eligible player to receive the specified effect. The result has a rock-paper-scissors-like feel, with success often depending on predicting how many beads opponents will offer.

After each round, the goal, condition, and effect cards are replaced, keeping the puzzle in motion and requiring fresh tactical decisions. The colorful plastic beads, distinctive card art, and charmingly macabre shrunken head tokens give Fiji a memorable table presence.

With its blend of logic, guesswork, and changing objectives, Fiji rewards players who can interpret the current cards while anticipating the choices of their opponents.
