About this board game
FlipOut is a 15-minute card game for 2–5 players, in which players trade colorful, two-sided cards between racks to create sets and collect the most cards.
Each player begins by drawing cards from the deck and filling their rack. Every card has a hidden side that only its owner can see, creating opportunities for clever trades and unexpected changes. On each turn, a player takes two actions from six available options, and the same action may be repeated.
- Flip any card in a rack to reveal its other side.
- Switch the positions of two cards in any rack.
- Swap one card between your rack and an opponent’s rack.
- Exchange adjacent cards when they share the same color.
- Score a set of 4–6 adjacent cards of one color on your rack.
- Score an opponent’s set, giving that player one card to score.
When you score a set on your own rack, place those cards in your personal scoring pile, then refill your rack to six cards. Scoring a qualifying set on an opponent’s rack also causes that player to refill their rack, while one card goes to that player’s scoring pile.
The game ends when a player can no longer refill their rack. The winner is the player who has collected the most cards. Originally published as Patchwork, FlipOut combines hidden information, swapping, positional changes, and set collection in a compact contest where every rack can become a target.
