About this board game

Fluttering Souls is a beautifully illustrated two-player board game that plays in about 20 minutes. Across 3–5 rounds, players compete to collect butterflies, earn victory points, and receive visits from the White Butterfly—the soul of a lost loved one.

The game draws on the Japanese legend of the White Butterfly. In the story, Takahama spends 50 years caring for the cemetery where his beloved Akiko is buried, bringing her a single pure white rose each day. When illness finally keeps him from visiting her grave, a white butterfly appears at his side before flying to Akiko’s grave.

In each round of Fluttering Souls, players take turns collecting butterflies. These butterflies can earn victory points as part of a set or individually, creating a focused contest as both players work toward the highest score.

• Goal: collect the most victory points in a round to gain a White Butterfly Token

At the end of each round, the player with the most victory points receives a White Butterfly Token, symbolizing a visit from a lost loved one. The first player to collect three tokens wins.
