About this expansion

Flying Colors: Ship of the Line is a naval wargame expansion for 2 players, with a playing time of about 240 minutes. It covers major fleet actions from the Age of Sail, primarily focusing on the American Revolution while also featuring battles in the Indian Ocean.

The expansion includes sixteen scenarios, ranging from Quiberon Bay in 1759 and 1st Ushant in 1778 to Cuddalore in 1783. Players can recreate historical engagements involving fleets at Saint Lucia, Grenada, Doggersbank, the Saintes, and several other major actions.

  • 16 total scenarios, including the hypothetical battle of Rhode Island
  • More than 100 new, individually named and rated ships
  • More than 30 new commanders
  • A new Map D that mates with maps from Flying Colors
  • Two updated player aid cards, revised rules, corrections, and additional status markers

Ship of the Line also introduces campaign rules for the struggle between Admirals Suffren and Hughes. Across five historical confrontations, players must maintain their vessels and may or may not receive reinforcements as they continue the fight for control of the Indian Ocean.

From the Moonlight Battle and Porto Praya Bay to Sadras, Providien, Negapatam, Trincomalee, and the two Saintes scenarios, the expansion offers a broad collection of fleet engagements. Its historical scenario selection, expanded roster of ships and commanders, and campaign framework make Flying Colors: Ship of the Line a substantial addition for Age of Sail enthusiasts. This expansion is included in Flying Colors (GMT deluxe third edition).
