About this board game

For the Crown (Second Edition) is a two-player strategy game played in about 60 minutes, combining deck-building with engrossing variations of Chess. Two royal brothers have plunged the kingdom into civil war, and each player must prove a claim to the throne.

Gather key resources, train an army from scratch, and develop your forces while maneuvering across the battlefield. Victory comes from capturing the rival King and Heirs, but preparing your army and protecting your royal pieces are equally important. Can you outpace your opponent’s development while avoiding capture?

The conflict continues after sunset. Alongside the battle fought during the day, both princes can use specially recruited units to catch the enemy unawares under cover of darkness. The Phantom can cloak itself and use the night to try to capture the opposing King and Heirs, while neither side is ever completely safe.

The Second Edition brings together the contents of the first edition and the Cover of Night expansion, while adding new cards, updated artwork, larger components, and new variant rules.

  • 150 deck-building cards
  • 123 thick, two-sided, laser-cut game units
  • An 11” x 17” game board
  • An 11” x 17” mounted, two-sided, jigsaw-cut game map
  • A 12-page full-color rule book

With its blend of resource gathering, army development, deck-building, and tactical positioning, For the Crown asks you to divide your attention between preparation and military maneuvering. Choose your side, command your forces, and fight for glory in this royal struggle.
