Foundations of Rome: Gardens of Ceres is a solo board game for 1 player, with a play time of approximately 45 minutes. Set during Rome’s creation, it challenges you to help the city grow while preserving a place for nature.

The goddess Ceres is saddened by the destruction of nature required to make way for Rome’s foundations. In response, her followers are called upon to erect lavish gardens so the budding city remembers its origins and maintains balance.

Yet Rome must continue to expand, and you must enact the King’s will—even when that means building around the gardens. Each decision takes place within the tension between the city’s growth and Ceres’s wish to protect nature.

• Adapt to construction that must take place around the gardens.
• Face an AI opponent that reacts to your building placements.
• Contend with special powers that can alter the city’s construction.

The game’s smart AI opponent attempts to outmaneuver you, responding to where you place your buildings and using special powers to influence the course of construction. Ceres may also tamper with the city’s development when she sees wisdom in doing so.

In Foundations of Rome: Gardens of Ceres, every building decision contributes to the city’s future while testing whether Rome can grow without forgetting the natural world from which it came.
