About this board game

Freeze is a 2010 improvisational party game for 4–10 players that plays in about 30 minutes. In each round, four players enter the stage together and act out a 45-second scene.

Before the scene begins, each actor learns a personal rank from 1 to 4. No actor knows anyone else’s rank, creating a playful challenge of observation, reaction, and performance. The situation for the scene is known only to the four actors on stage.

The goal is to express each rank so clearly that the spectators can work out who holds which position. Actors must respond to what the others are doing, turning every scene into an improvised exchange where gestures, reactions, and unexpected moments can reveal more than words.

Freeze does not require formal acting experience. The game invites players to trust their instincts, react quickly, and make their assigned rank visible through the scene. Spectators can focus on reading the performers, while actors try to communicate their position without knowing the information held by anyone else.

Also known as Bühne frei!, Freeze combines a simple hidden-information premise with fast, open-ended performance. Whether the scene becomes skillful, surprising, or hilariously chaotic, the game gives both actors and spectators a reason to stay engaged from beginning to end.
