About this board game

Frozen Frontier is a highly strategic Eurogame for 1–4 players, with an approximately 180-minute play time, about humanity’s struggle to settle the unforgiving planet Janus.

In the 22nd century, Earth faces a resource crisis, forcing the United Civilizations to send the Argo expedition through newly discovered wormholes. Janus offers hope and vital resources, but its two-faced environment includes hellish Helium-3 solar winds and frozen methane seas.

Each turn, move your Carrier to any city, collect a project card, and choose one of three actions. Construct uses the top half of a multi-use project card to build in a specified location. Meeting the requirements adds the card to your player board, where its lower-half effect can provide benefits whenever triggered.

  • Construct: Build projects that can advance your Industrial or Science tracks and unlock new opportunities.
  • Collaborate: Settle colonists and use your own or competitors’ production and science buildings for resources and effects.
  • Raise funds: Use a subsidy card to gain Qubits and/or special opportunities.

When the Subsidy deck is empty, players receive income, send resources to Earth, and prepare for the next round. Shipments may include common scheduled contracts, private unscheduled contracts, and mandatory Helium-3 shipments required to avoid a penalty token.

After the third round, victory points come from controlled cities, settled colonists, fulfilled shipment contracts, and end-game effects on cards. In Frozen Frontier, the player with the most points leads humanity’s settlement on Janus.
