About this board game
Funkenschlag is a board game for 2–6 players, with a playing time of approximately 180 minutes, in which players draw electrical networks connecting cities and power them through purchased plants and resources.
Players build their networks directly on the board by connecting various cities. To power those connections, they purchase power plants and the resources needed to run them.
The game combines two central activities: expanding an electrical network across the board and acquiring the means to supply it with power. Every part of the experience is centered on connecting cities, obtaining plants, and securing the resources required for operation.
- For 2–6 players
- Approximately 180 minutes of play time

Released in 2001, Funkenschlag is the first edition of the game and was published only by 2F Spiele. It is distinct from the later second edition, which is also known as Power Grid.
Several changes were made for that second edition, including adjustments to the payout schedule and the use of a fixed board. Funkenschlag therefore represents the original version of this electrical-network and power-plant game, preserving the edition’s own rules and presentation.
