About this board game

Game of Thrones: Oathbreaker is a deception and social deduction game for 5–8 players that takes about 45 minutes to play. Released in 2019, it casts one player as the King or Queen and the others as the great Lords and Ladies of Westeros.

Some nobles are loyalists seeking order in the realm, while others are conspirators working to undermine the throne. Every player also has a secret agenda, leaving the monarch to determine who is truly loyal and who is pursuing power, honor, or coin.

The game unfolds over seven rounds. Each round, players reveal mission cards associated with one of three influence types: crowns, ravens, or swords. Nobles secretly play influence cards to one or more missions, then place their House Sigil at the mission where they played the most cards.

  • Resolve each mission by shuffling and tallying the influence cards played there.
  • Successful missions generate Order, while failed missions generate Chaos.
  • Nobles earn coin, honor, and power according to whether their House Sigil’s mission succeeded or failed.

The King can also play decree cards throughout the game. These decrees may grant favor to nobles who appear loyal or cast suspicion on suspected conspirators. A correct decree awards Order, but a mistaken judgment adds Chaos instead.

At the end of Game of Thrones: Oathbreaker, the balance between Order and Chaos determines the outcome. If Order exceeds Chaos, the King wins, along with any loyalists who achieved their personal ambitions. If Chaos leads, conspirators who fulfilled their ambitions win instead.
