About this board game

Gargon is a fantasy-themed card game for 3–5 players that takes about 45 minutes to play. Across six suits representing fantasy creatures, players compete to win cards, collect amulets, and earn valuable end-game bonuses.

The deck contains 102 Gargon cards, with values from 0 to 15, plus 18 bonus cards. Lower-value cards show more amulet symbols, while the highest-value cards have none. Every amulet is worth one point, and the player who wins the most cards in a suit receives a 10-point bonus card—or a 5-point bonus when tied.

Each player begins with ten cards, while the remaining cards form two face-down draw piles in the center. The backs reveal the suits’ colors, but players must also hold their own cards so that only the backs can be seen. This keeps the information available at the table limited while players plan their next play.

In each round, the start player places up to three cards face down, never three of the same suit. Other players must match the number of cards and the same suit distribution or pass. Battles are then resolved for every suit played: the highest card wins, sending its owner’s card to their scoring stash while losing cards are discarded and replaced.

  • If a player plays two cards of one suit, the weaker card can fight in a second battle.
  • Players who pass draw 1–3 cards from the central piles.
  • Zero-value cards have no amulets, but double the amulet count for their suit—or quadruple it if both zero cards are won.

When one draw pile is exhausted, the current round finishes before scoring. In Gargon, concealed choices, suit majorities, amulet totals, and carefully timed battles all contribute to the final result.
