Gates is a 2022 expansion for Gate, designed for one player and requiring a copy of the base game to play.

This solo tower-defense game adds new content to the struggle against a swarm of vile creatures from the local forest. As the leader of a small medieval town under siege, you must protect your gate, tower, and local farm while keeping fear from overwhelming your people.

Gates expands the original experience with new options and challenges for your defense. It brings additional citizens to hire, enemies to battle, heroes to help protect your gate, locations to defend, and barricades to build. It also introduces ZOGAR to the game.

Deck-building drives the gameplay. You begin with three starting cards, then recruit people from your town as the siege continues. Each character has unique abilities, and some possess special powers, giving you important choices as you develop your defenses.

Enemies become increasingly difficult with every new wave, forcing you to decide when to spend resources on combat, upgrading your command, or repairing the town. Your gate must remain standing and your people’s fear must stay under control; otherwise, you lose. Hold off the swarm long enough, and you can claim victory.
