About this board game
Genesia is a civilization and placement game for 1–5 players, played over roughly 100 minutes. Across three ages—ancient times, medieval times, and the modern era—you draft cards, develop your territories, and compete for points through expansion, invention, and conflict.
At the start of each age, players receive six cards and draft a hand of five. Each age unfolds through four phases: growth, expansion, attack, and end. Players act in order within each phase, taking actions until everyone passes before moving on.
- Growth: Play cards, recruit clans, and place them in your homeland or cities.
- Expansion: Recruit or move clans across the shared Genesia board, paying movement costs and tolls when passing through occupied regions.
- Attack: Simultaneously choose war or peace, then resolve attacks between adjacent regions when players choose war.
- End: Build cities in eligible regions, play end-of-age cards, and score progress and invention cards.
Each player begins an age with 15 coins, which help pay for recruiting clans, movement, and card effects. Cards can also be discarded for four coins, giving you a flexible way to manage your hand and resources. During attacks, players choose how many clans to commit, while cities can be besieged and replaced when their defending clans are removed.
After the third age, players total progress points, foreign-continent bonuses, points for occupied regions, and any points from their secret objective. With valuable central regions, shared spaces, simultaneous war decisions, and substantial player interaction, Genesia turns the rise of a civilization into a tightly structured contest for territory and influence.
