Germania Magna: Border in Flames is a card-wargame for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Each player takes the role of a Germanic warlord, leading warriors into the Roman provinces beyond the Rhine and Danube.

The Roman Empire is weakened compared with the eras of Caesar and Trajan, yet it remains too powerful to conquer. Its towns, villages, and fields offer valuable loot, while its armies provide a chance for rival warlords to prove their leadership and pursue eternal glory.

The game centers on shifting alliances. Germanic tribes and warbands are divided by rivalry and constant conflict, making cooperation necessary when facing the powerful Roman enemy. Alliances may be useful, but they are never secure: other warlords can change sides as the tide of war turns.
