About this board game

Gier is a card game for 2–5 players that plays in about 15 minutes, challenging you to steal from opponents while building a collection of matching values.

Each player begins with one crook card and seven number cards, with the number cards dealt face down from the deck. During your turn, play a card from your hand into your face-up collection. Then you may launch a card raid against another player.

Choose an opponent and draw a card from their hand, placing it face up on the table. You can stop and keep the stolen card, or continue drawing from that same player. The risk is clear: if two stolen cards show the same number, your turn ends and the cards return to the victim’s hand.

  • Play a card from your hand into your collection.
  • Raid an opponent by drawing cards from their hand.
  • Stop voluntarily or risk drawing a matching number.
  • Be the first player to collect six cards of one value.

Crook cards add another reason to weigh each decision. If you draw a crook and stop voluntarily, you may take a card of your choice from the opponent’s collection. Some cards also trigger special actions as soon as they are drawn from a hand, including looking at an opponent’s hand or placing cards from the deck into a collection.

In Gier, every raid can increase your collection or send the stolen cards back. Decide how much you want to take before greed leaves you empty-handed, and race to gather six cards with the same number.
