About this expansion

GIPF Project Set 3 is an expansion for two players that adds new potentials and extra pieces to GIPF, with games lasting about 30 minutes.

This set contains three expansions for GIPF: YINSH-potentials, PÜNCT-potentials, and additional basic pieces. It is designed to support Ultimate GIPF, the version played with 21 basic pieces and all five different kinds of potentials.

  • 6 white and 6 black YINSH-potentials
  • 6 white and 6 black PÜNCT-potentials
  • 3 white and 3 black extra basic pieces

The YINSH-potential can slide off its piece across any number of empty spots, allowing for sneaky deployment. The PÜNCT-potential can land on top of certain other pieces—different pieces from those affected by the DVONN-potential.

When the PÜNCT-potential lands on an eligible piece, it can change that piece’s color or possibly introduce more GIPF-pieces during the game. The precise powers of the potentials are detailed on the project GIPF wiki page.

GIPF Project Set 3 was released in 2006 and was described as probably the final part of Project GIPF, bringing together the project’s different games and potential types. For players ready for the most expansive version, this set offers the components needed to combine all five kinds of potentials in Ultimate GIPF.

It was also the first product created through Kris Burm’s cooperation with SMART.
