About this board game
Glory II: Across the Rappahannock is a 1–2-player American Civil War game with an approximate play time of 360 minutes. It presents combat at brigade level, combining fast, accessible play with solid historical insight.
This second game in GMT’s Glory series revises the original design with updated command and combat mechanics. Its unique chit activation system creates constant tension, since commanders never quite know what will happen next. The game is also designed to work well for solitaire play.
Across the Rappahannock focuses on two major Civil War battles that have received relatively little attention in the hobby: Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. At Fredericksburg, Burnside’s forces attempt a frontal assault across the river against a heavily defended Confederate position. Chancellorsville was the biggest battle of the entire war.
- A full Chancellorsville battle using three maps and a substantial playing time
- Two standard one-map battles
- Three smaller scenarios highlighting engagements within the larger battles
The smaller scenarios use fewer counters and can be completed in only a couple of hours, offering shorter ways to explore the system. For players who already own the original Glory, the new game includes all the counters needed to play its Manassas and Chickamauga battles with the revised rules.
With its brigade-level scope, unpredictable activations, and range of scenario sizes, Glory II: Across the Rappahannock offers a tense tabletop treatment of two important Civil War engagements while extending and updating the original game system.
