About this board game
Gnaughty Gnomes is a 2–4 player may-follow trick-taking game played in about 60 minutes. It combines fixed partnerships, a hex board, and a single hand of nine cards per player.
The forest board is divided into colored hexes, with each color representing a different quality of mushroom. As players compete in tricks, the outcome determines how they may place their gnomes on the board.
Position within each trick matters. The result assigns players different special actions for playing a gnome, creating a direct connection between card play and board positioning. Every placement can influence the developing areas and the mushrooms available to gather.
- May-follow trick-taking: play through a single hand of nine cards per player.
- Hex-board placement: use special actions to place gnomes in the forest.
- Area majority: assess placements for control of board areas.
- Immediate scoring: gather mushrooms and score them as victory points.
Each gnome placement is assessed for area majority conditions, while gathered mushrooms provide immediate victory points. The changing results of the tricks make timing and cooperation important throughout the hand.
In Gnaughty Gnomes, clever teamwork means placing your naughty gnomes where they can secure the most potent mushrooms. Coordinate your partnership, make the most of your trick positions, and pursue the strongest scoring opportunities before the hand ends.
