About this expansion

Great War at Sea: Dreadnoughts is a 2004 supplement for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. It expands the main games in Avalanche Press’s Great War at Sea series with new pieces, scenarios, historical plans, and optional advanced tactical rules.

This is an expansion rather than a standalone game: no map is included, and playing its scenarios requires elements from other games in the series. Its content broadens the naval setting of the World War I era, covering Spanish, Turkish, Russian, Greek, French, and Romanian plans.

The product includes die-cut, mounted counters for expanding your existing fleets. Its additions include the Spanish Armada of the World War One era, the Ottoman Turkish navy, Austro-Hungarian building projects, and multiple versions of Rio de Janeiro/Agincourt in the liveries of different nations, representing other potential buyers.

  • 70 full-size counters and 20 small counters
  • New scenarios and articles focused on national naval plans
  • Fleet additions for several World War I-era powers
  • Optional advanced tactical rules by Karl Laskas

The advanced rules offer a more detailed approach to combat while using existing ship factors, existing maps, and the six-sided die standardized throughout the system. Because they integrate with the base games, they provide an additional layer of tactical detail without replacing the series’ established components.

For players who already own the relevant Great War at Sea games, Great War at Sea: Dreadnoughts adds new historical possibilities and flexible combat options to the system.
