About this board game

Greenville 1989 is a cooperative narrative game for 3–6 players, with sessions lasting about 45 minutes. Each player takes the role of a character who has experienced or witnessed supernatural events.

Across the game, players describe these strange events to their fellow players. The group must then interpret what they hear, locate the character involved, and save them. Communication and shared understanding are central as everyone works toward the same goal.

The lead role changes every round, giving each player the opportunity to be both lost and found. One player takes the spotlight as the character whose situation must be understood, while the others try to determine where that character is and bring them back.

  • Cooperative play: Work together rather than compete against one another.
  • Narrative focus: Describe and interpret supernatural experiences.
  • Changing lead role: Everyone gets the chance to be lost or found.
  • Mounting danger: Failure to be found pulls the group closer to the void engulfing the town.

Being found is essential. If a character is not located, the entire group is drawn closer to the void that threatens to consume them all, adding urgency to every round and every description.

Released in 2019, Greenville 1989 offers a shared story built around supernatural events, deduction, and the challenge of saving one another. The game has a sequel set ten years later: Paris 1889.
