About this board game

Groo: The Game is a fast, fun town-building game for 2–6 players, with play taking about 60 minutes. Players race to be the first to build a large town and earn victory points from their building cards.

Building is never simple when rival armies and Groo the Wanderer are involved. Players roll a set of dice to gain resources, then spend those resources on buildings or troops. Any resources that cannot be used are passed along to other players, creating an unusual flow of opportunity around the table.

Groo’s frequent visits are determined by the dice. His arrival can bring helpful resources, but it can also cause trouble for the unfortunate player whose village he enters. Players can use “Groo heads” to damage villages where Groo is present, while developed armies give them the ability to attack opposing cities.

  • Build a town with building cards that provide victory points.
  • Roll dice for resources, Groo’s visits, and “Groo heads.”
  • Develop armies to attack other players’ cities.
  • Play with 2–6 players in about an hour.

Featuring cards illustrated by Sergio Aragonés, Groo: The Game brings his wandering barbarian and the characters surrounding him to the tabletop. Groo is a warrior and wanderer who is never in one place for long, largely because his clumsy helpfulness leads people to run him out.

This 2023 edition includes both the original game and its expansion. Try to build a thriving town without having it stomped into rubble by Groo the Barbarian.
