About this board game
Guam: Return to Glory is a World War II board game for 1–4 players, with playing times ranging from shorter scenarios to a full campaign lasting up to 2,100 minutes. It recreates the American invasion and recapture of Guam from 21 July to 10 August 1944.
Using Adam Starkweather’s Company Scale System (CSS), the game presents combat at company level and below. Each turn represents two hours, while every hex covers 500 meters, creating a detailed operational view of the island’s beaches, ridges, jungle, airfields, and defensive positions.
The American forces must coordinate widely separated landings at Asan and Agat, advance inland, join the beachheads, and overcome determined Japanese resistance. The scenarios reflect the shifting objectives of the campaign, from the opening assault to the final fighting in northern Guam.
- Six scenarios: three first-day invasion scenarios, Orote Peninsula, Into the Jungle, and Santa Rosa.
- One 188-turn campaign: follow the full historical battle from the initial landings through the Japanese final stand.
- Flexible play: designed for two players, playable by up to four, and suitable for solitaire play.
- Four maps: supporting scenarios ranging from single-map engagements to the complete campaign.
The game includes four maps, six countersheets, series and game-specific rulebooks, seven player aids, charts, tables and cards, plus two ten-sided dice. With a listed complexity of 6 and solitaire suitability of 8, Guam: Return to Glory offers a substantial historical battlefield experience across focused engagements and a complete campaign.
