About this board game
Guildlands is a strategic city-building board game for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. Set in the devastated realm of Thornshire, it challenges rival Guilds to rebuild the capital city of Ferrum’s Ford after an ancient dragon horde reduced the land to ruins.
The Queen has ordered the Guilds to restore the realm and surpass its former glory. Each Guild brings a distinct speciality, from collecting road tolls and trading goods to cultivating gardens, wielding magic, studying druidic powers and maintaining the City Watch. While the rebuilding effort serves a noble purpose, the Guilds are also competing for dominance and the Queen’s favour.
On every turn, you must perform one tile action. You can take a new tile from the available pool or risk drawing the face-down tile from the top of the stack. Alternatively, you can rotate a tile on the edge of the City, changing it to a configuration that better rewards your plans—while giving your opponents an opportunity to react.
Once per turn, you may also perform a special action. These actions let you place workers on the board or use your Guild’s unique abilities, but they are limited, making each choice important. Guild Boards explain these abilities and each Guild’s goal in seeking the Queen’s favour.
- Develop Ferrum’s Ford by taking and rotating tiles.
- Place workers and use limited special actions.
- Choose between available tiles and risky face-down draws.
- Spend gold for additional tiles or special actions, or pursue bonus points for unspent gold.
In Guildlands, every investment can shape the emerging city and the struggle between Guilds. Decide when to spend, when to hold back, and which Guild’s expertise will lead Thornshire into its future.
