About this board game
Gumshoe is a detective investigation game for 1–6 players, with sessions lasting about 120 minutes. Players work individually or as a team for the Continental Detective Agency, solving a series of hard-boiled cases in 1934 San Francisco.
Over nine days, from July 3 through July 11, the Old Man of the Continental Detective Agency assigns one case each day. From Chinatown to Nob Hill, players investigate an exciting and dangerous underworld filled with gambling dens, drawing rooms, forgery, and murder.
Gumshoe provides the reference material needed to conduct a detailed investigation. Search for clues, track down suspects, and connect the evidence while recording the time spent on each lead. The game’s period detail and carefully constructed plots support a richly atmospheric detective experience.
- Detailed maps of San Francisco and the Bay Area
- Directories listing thousands of people and places
- A case book containing hundreds of clues
- Police mug shots with vital statistics on known criminals
- Dated newspapers and a fingerprint file
- Time sheets and case reports containing the solutions
This is not a role-playing game or a conventional board game. It is an investigation game centered on reading, searching, reasoning, and uncovering the answers to a large number of cases. Its simple rules, excellent writing, and faithfulness to its period style continue the traditions of the award-winning Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective series.
For players who enjoy methodical deduction and atmospheric mysteries, Gumshoe offers an extensive journey through the rough-and-tumble world of the hard-boiled detective.
