About this board game

Haggis is a climbing card game for 2–4 players, with play taking about 45 minutes. It belongs to the same family as Zheng Fen and Big Two, while combining ideas from each of them into its own distinctive card-game experience.

At the heart of Haggis are card combinations and bombs. Players use the cards in their hands to take part in the climbing-game contest, while managing equally distributed wild cards that add another element to the available possibilities.

The game also incorporates several different ways to score. Points can come from cards remaining in hand, as well as from cards collected in tricks. This gives the cards significance both during play and when evaluating the results.

  • Climbing-game play in the family of Zheng Fen and Big Two
  • Card combinations and bombs
  • Equally distributed wild cards
  • Scoring for cards in hand and cards collected in tricks
  • Betting on whether you will empty your hand first

Haggis adds betting to its blend of climbing-game mechanisms, asking players to back their chances of being the first to empty their hand of cards. That goal sits alongside the game’s combination play, wild cards, tricks, and multiple scoring elements.

Released in 2010, Haggis recombines familiar ideas from its parent games into a compact card-game format for two to four players.
