About this board game

Hantise is a party game for 6–12 players that brings haunted locations to life in about 30 minutes. Played in the dark with only the light from smartphone flashlights, it can unfold indoors or outdoors, ideally in places where some players can isolate themselves.

One player becomes the Master of Ceremonies, while everyone else takes the role of a Medium. The MC participates fully in the game while also keeping play on track. Together, the group faces seven rounds, each divided into three distinct phases.

  1. Preparation: Players are dealt cards that can haunt them.
  2. Exploration: Mediums attempt to save possessed players and earn points by completing missions, described as dares.
  3. Validation: Points are tallied and the end-game conditions are checked.

The darkness, smartphone light, and possibility of isolation create a distinctive setting for each round. Whether played inside or outside, the game turns its surroundings into part of the haunted experience.

The Mediums win if the candle tokens are out of the board. But the haunting can overwhelm the group: if the MC calls the players and nobody comes because they are all possessed, the game is lost.

With its compact play time and flexible setting, Hantise combines role-based play, missions, and a shared push toward survival. Gather your group, dim the lights, and see whether the Mediums can save enough players before the final call.
