About this board game
Hellweg westfalicus is a trading game for 2–4 players, played over approximately 60 minutes and twelve rounds. Set along the historic Westphalian Hellweg, players compete to build the greatest fortune through careful buying, selling, and route creation.
The Hellweg was a road between Duisburg and Paderborn that had been important for trade for more than five thousand years. In the game, players trade three key commodities: salt, beer, and ironware. The aim is to buy goods at low prices and sell them for the highest possible profit.
Timing is central to every transaction. Waiting may bring a better purchase price, but it can also mean that only a small amount remains available to sell. Players must judge when to act and how much opportunity to leave for their rivals.
Trade is not limited to a single location. By using coaches, players can create trade routes and supply distant towns, adding another way to pursue wealth across the Westphalian road.
- Trade salt, beer, and ironware.
- Buy at low prices and sell for maximum profit.
- Use coaches to create routes to distant towns.
- Compete for the most money after twelve rounds.
After the twelfth round, the player with the most money wins. Hellweg westfalicus also includes the Warehouse and Privileges expansion module for expert players, offering an additional way to experience this historical trading game.
