About this board game
Herbaceous is a herb-collecting game for 1–4 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Compete to grow and store the most valuable medley of herbs by making thoughtful choices about where each card belongs.
Every player begins with four containers, each offering a different way to group herbs. These containers reward collecting herbs of the same type, different types, pairs, or any three types, whether matching or varied.
- Group herbs of the same type.
- Group different herb types.
- Group pairs.
- Group any three types, same or different.
On your turn, draw a herb and decide whether to place it in your personal collection or in the communal pile. If you keep the card, the next card goes to the communal pile; if you add the card to the communal pile, the next one goes into your personal collection.
At the start of your turn, you may decide to use one of your containers. Assemble cards from your personal and communal spaces, group them according to that container’s rule, and turn the cards over to show that they have been collected. Once used, a container cannot be used again.
At the end of Herbaceous, players determine the best collection by combining the value of their collected herbs with matching herbs and herb sets. With personal and communal cards constantly influencing one another, every placement helps shape the medley you are building.
