About this board game
HeroClix is a two-player tactical combat miniatures game played in about 60 minutes, where heroes and villains from comics, movies, and TV shows face off in head-to-head battles.
At the heart of the game is the patented Combat Dial System, originally found in the collectible Mage Knight miniatures game. Each HeroClix miniature uses its dial to reflect changes in combat values, powers, and abilities as the battle develops.
The combat dial makes every character’s progress through a fight part of the experience. Some figures can shift from long-range attacks to close-quarters combat, while others may move from acting aggressively to stealing their opponent’s energy. Characters can become worn down by battle, while certain figures experience rage after taking damage that helps them strike back.
- Two-player tactical combat: Put teams of heroes and villains into direct opposition.
- Changing character abilities: Combat values, powers, and abilities evolve through the Combat Dial System.
- Gridded maps: Movement and positioning use map grids instead of a measure-and-move system.
- Dice rolling: Resolve the uncertainty of combat with die rolls.
Rather than relying on a measure-and-move system, HeroClix uses gridded maps to structure movement and positioning. Combined with die rolling and changing combat dials, these elements create a tactical contest in which the condition and capabilities of each miniature can change over time.
First released in 2002, HeroClix has built up a wide selection of characters. Nearly any comic character you can imagine has appeared in the game at some point, giving players plenty of options for assembling battles around their favorite fictional heroes and villains.
