HEXplore It: The Valley of the Dead King – Encounter Deck is a 2022 encounter deck for 1–7 players that offers a new way to play Valley of the Dead King.

This deck separates Encounters from the volumes where they originally appeared, letting you customize which encounters can appear in any volume you play. Previously existing encounters from the Core Box, the Expansion, and the Living Card deck are reprinted with epic new art.

The Encounter Deck includes 32 full-art encounters, along with a rules insert explaining this new playstyle. It also introduces updated rules for the Roles who Summon Encounters, giving those roles new variations to use during the game.

• Boons provide new and increased rewards on the next Encounter you face.
• Game Difficulty increase cards add three difficulty increase cards to the deck.
• A Conditions/Keyword list lets you add conditions that appeared exclusively in certain volumes to any game.
• Encounter cards can be mixed and customized across volumes.

Boons create a push-your-luck element when drawn. After drawing a Boon, draw another card; if it is another Boon, continue drawing. When the final card is an Encounter, you gain extra rewards after battle.

If the final card is not an Encounter—such as a difficulty increase—the Boons are shuffled back into the Encounter Deck. This creates a flexible reward system while keeping the deck ready for future draws.

With its reprinted encounters, customizable card pool, updated summoning rules, and new reward possibilities, HEXplore It: The Valley of the Dead King – Encounter Deck gives players more control over how their encounters appear and how each volume is played.
