About this board game

Highlight Maker Hoops is a basketball sports-replay game for 1–2 players that delivers a complete game in about 30 minutes. Its fast action card system distils each contest into the key highlights, keeping the action focused and quick to resolve.

Each quarter, draw up to 10 Fast Action Cards (FACs). Every card indicates the type of basketball action taking place, creating opportunities for scoring, rebounds, free throws, and player substitutions.

• Check qualities of the active home or away player.
• Generate offensive scoring or defensive prevention.
• Resolve rebounds, free throws, and substitutions.
• Build each team’s score from successful scoring opportunities.

Once you understand what each FAC type does, turns move rapidly. Cards usually ask you to check whether the active player has a particular quality. If the condition is met, the team may score on offence or prevent a score on defence.

At the end of each quarter, the teams’ scoring successes are converted into a match score using normal basketball scoring. This gives the game a clear rhythm: reveal the action, check the relevant players, and watch the scoreboard develop quarter by quarter.

When four quarters are complete, the result may still come down to the wire. If the scores are less than four points apart, the Final Minute phase begins, allowing furious late action to determine the final score. If the game is not close, this phase is skipped. With its compact card system and highlight-focused structure, Highlight Maker Hoops offers a streamlined way to replay a basketball game without resolving every possession.
