About this board game

Hostage Negotiator is a solo board game for 1 player that takes about 30 minutes to play. You take the role of a law enforcement agent negotiating with an unscrupulous hostage taker determined to have their demands met.

Each turn represents a conversation with the hostage taker. Play cards and roll dice to build conversation points, reduce the threat level, and release hostages. Your choices shape the negotiation as you try to gain control of an increasingly dangerous situation.

The game uses a distinctive hand-building mechanism. Cards you purchase go directly into your hand for the next turn, letting you plan around new options immediately instead of waiting for them to appear in a shuffled deck.

There are multiple ways to pursue victory, while the hostage taker follows plans of their own. You might try to calm the situation and encourage a surrender, or stall for time before ordering the team to carry out a major extraction.

  • Play cards and roll dice to increase conversation points.
  • Lower the threat level as you negotiate.
  • Release hostages and decide how many you can save.
  • Use cards purchased for immediate access on the following turn.

Every decision balances progress against danger. Will a careful conversation resolve the crisis, or will patience and timing create the opportunity for a major intervention? Released in 2015, Hostage Negotiator offers a focused negotiation experience built around tense choices and changing priorities.
