About this board game

Hues and Cues is a 30-minute color-guessing game for 3–10 players, where players use words to connect others with a specific hue from 480 colors on the game board.

Each round begins with a cue giver secretly choosing a color from a deck of cards. They then offer a one-word cue followed by a two-word cue, giving everyone around the table a chance to interpret the description and place a marker on the shade they think is correct.

The challenge is that people imagine colors differently. A cue such as “coffee” could suggest a dark brown shade, while “au lait” might point toward a lighter color. The closer the guesses are to the target hue, the more points players earn.

Good cues can come from everyday life, nature, pop culture, materials, or moods. Players can also draw on the experiences of others at the table, using their reactions and guesses to narrow down what the cue giver has in mind.

Everyone gets a turn to give clues and guess, creating a simple format with plenty of room for different interpretations. Released in 2020, Hues and Cues offers a vibrant way to explore communication, association, and the many ways people perceive color.
