About this board game
I Am Spartacus! is a two-player simulation of the Third Servile War, played over approximately 180 minutes and covering the slave revolt that shook the Roman Republic from 73 to 71 B.C.
One player takes the Rebel side, while the other represents Rome. The game unfolds across a map of Italy and the Mediterranean, focusing on the areas where the War of the Gladiators took place.
Most games are decided by points, but two dramatic conditions can end the struggle immediately. The Rebel player wins automatically by occupying Rome, while the Roman player wins automatically by capturing Spartacus.
- Players: 2
- Playing time: approximately 180 minutes
- Game length: 17 turns
- Components: a 22 × 34-inch mapsheet, 14 pages of rules, and 189 5/8-inch counters
If neither automatic victory condition occurs, the contest continues through all 17 turns. At the end of the game, the player with the most points wins, making the final result a measure of success across the complete campaign.
Released in 1992, I Am Spartacus! presents the Third Servile War as a focused two-player historical game. Its large mapsheet, substantial counter set, and clearly defined victory possibilities frame the conflict around the opposing goals of occupying Rome, capturing Spartacus, or leading on points when the final turn ends.
